Unsung Heroes for Los Angeles Chargers Running Game

A number of players are contributing into the pounding attack of the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Los Angeles Chargers are going to pound you. Then we will pound you some more. Just when you thought they were done, we are going to pound you a little more. Once you think the pounding is coming…. Deep ball to Tyrell Williams!

How are you going to stop it?

The Chargers have gotten a lot of use out of their backs and there are a number of guys that have been unselfish and opening things up for Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler. The backs are eating off the running game and in the screen game. They find a number of ways to produce.

Here are a few guys that need to get recognition for their work:

Mike Pouncey has to get some love for this run game. Bringing him over this offseason has been huge. He is smart and athletic and having him quarterback the offensive line has helped get everyone on the same page. It’s like we have Nick Hardwick back on offense to help Philip Rivers and the rest of the guys out. It is big for the offense.

I constantly see Derek Watt blowing someone up on the stretch plays to the outside. He isn’t on the field often, but when he gets there he is laying someone out. I still remember how much a battering ram Lorenzo Neal was back in the day and I love seeing moments like that again.

The tight ends are active and opening up the edges. Virgil Green has been awesome and so has Sean Culkin. Culkin saw more snaps last week than Antonio Gates. If you watch him put in work, you would understand why.

Lastly, the big runs are opened up by the wide receivers. Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are big physical receivers and love to get after it in the running game. I love watching them mix it up with DBs expecting their backs to get into the secondary.

It is a group effort and this team looks like they are enjoying stuffing the ball down team’s throats. It is all about attitude and this team has it right now. The Chargers are a physical football team and that is going to carry them a very long way.
