The San Francisco 49ers have a tough task awaiting them this week as they travel to Los Angeles to face a talented Chargers team while being shorthanded on both sides of the ball.
The 49ers were dealt a devastating blow in their Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs when they lost quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the season with a torn ACL, but they’re also without one of their top players on defense at the moment with cornerback Richard Sherman out due to a calf strain.
The Chargers haven’t been able to avoid the injury bug themselves, however, as defensive end Joey Bosa announced this week he’ll likely be out at least the first half of the season due to a foot injury, while wide receiver Keenan Allen wasn’t practicing Wednesday due to a knee injury.
But while each team heads into the week at 1-2 and each is dealing with their share of bumps and bruises, the loss of Garoppolo makes the 49ers a clear underdog in this one. It’ll be up to C.J. Beathard to pick up where Garoppolo left off and try to lead the 49ers to an upset win at the StubHub Center.
Read on for a look at how these two teams stack up by position.
