The Chargers enter this offseason looking to add onto an already talented roster. Whether that be in free agency or the 2019 NFL draft remains to be seen, but there are positions on both sides of the ball that they will be looking to add depth.
Here, we rank the top-five needs the Bolts face entering the offseason:
When the Chargers moved Jahleel Addae away from his natural position to man the middle-deep part of the field, he struggled significantly. From lacking ideal long-speed and range to missed tackles in the open field, Addae was not suited for the free safety position.
Los Angeles might look to give FS Rayshawn Jenkins a longer look at the role, as he did fine in the last two playoff games against the Ravens and Patriots. Or they could re-sign Jaylen Watkins, who was expected to play free safety in 2018 before tearing his ACL in Week 2 of the preseason.
One other thing that’d be ideal is giving one of their best defenders, Adrian Phillips an opportunity to play the role next season.
Whomever it is, the Bolts need to find a player who has the cover instincts, play range, and toughness against the run.
