The NFL season is at the quarter point, and the Los Angeles Chargers are going into Week 5 with a 2-2 record. Their struggles are primarily due to the lack of pressure on opposing quarterbacks and kicking woes.
Pro Football Focus released an article with one trade for each one of the 32 teams across the league that they would like to see. They’d like to see the Bolts acquire Eagles defensive end Chris Long in return for a fourth-round selection.
Here is what PFF had to say about acquiring Long from Philadelphia:
Though he’s become a face of the franchise, Long isn’t a long-term solution for the Eagles’ defense, nor is he the better option compared to Brandon Graham, Michael Bennett and Derek Barnett. Philadelphia can win big by trading away their rotational edge-rusher to the Los Angeles Chargers as they patiently await the return of star edge defender Joey Bosa.
Even though it seems unrealistic, it would be nice to see L.A. get a player to pair across from DE Melvin Ingram to help with the pass rush. Ingram has consistently been double-teamed, and the others just aren’t getting it done. Long would serve as just that as he has proven to be a solid option along Philly’s stacked defensive line.
General manager Tom Telesco hasn’t shown an inclination to make trades like this since he took over. But fans can only wish what if they had a certain player on their team that could contribute right away.
We now continue to wait until Bosa gets back and hope the Chargers can continue to stir up wins in the meantime despite the lack of pressure. Bosa is set to return after the bye week (Week 9) at the earliest.
