Luther Keith Jr. Named Chargers’ Neighborhood All-Star

Due to his commitment to serving his community, Inglewood resident Luther Keith Jr. has been named the Chargers’ Neighborhood All-Star.

“It was a blessing, and it shocked me,” Keith said. “It means a lot to me by helping my community out and being a blessing. A lot of folks in the community don’t have food or anywhere to stay. I’ve been doing this since 2001, and I thank God for my mother and father for showing me the way.”

Keith was nominated by Kathy Jones through the Next Door platform and recognized for the indelible mark he makes on the Los Angeles community.  Keith gets up at 5:00 a.m. every day to feed the homeless. Additionally, he mentors kids at a local school and serves as security for the Drew League, a basketball league in Compton.

“He deserves this because of his commitment to the community and serving the people,” Jones reflected. “He loves people. He is a person that if you’re in need, he’s a giver. I nominated him because people need to know who is (helping) in the community. He does this every single day. I just wanted him to know that people are watching. I’m watching.”

In recognition of his service, Keith was honored during the second quarter of the Bengals-Chargers game this past Sunday. He stood on field as his story was read to a raucous ovation of cheers from the crowd. But in true fashion, he still got up at the crack of dawn to feed the homeless that morning. Jones wasn’t surprised in the slightest.

“Helping people is in his DNA,” she continued. “It’s not something that he does on the side. He does this 24/7. If you watch him, you’ll see him helping someone somewhere.”

Additionally, the Chargers and Next Door would like to recognize the following honorable mentions for their service and dedication to their communities: Yuri Williams and Kieran Roche.
