The Los Angeles Chargers kicking woes have finally resulted in change, but it is not the change many advocated for and expected. Caleb Sturgis’ many missed kicks this season got someone cut, but it was not him. Punter Drew Kaser, who also holds on field goal attempts, has been released to make froom for Donnie Jones.
Adam Schefter reports via Twitter:
Chargers shaking up special teams: signing punter Donnie Jones and releasing Drew Kaser, per sources. Jones now will be new holder for kicker Caleb Sturgis. So new punter and holder for LA.

For his career, Sturgis has been a mediocre kicker. Kaser, meanwhile, has been at times a very solid punter. This is certainly an interesting way of going about fixing the Chargers terrible special teams.
If this seems unfair to the Chargers’ young punter, don’t shed too many tears for him. The Chargers punting results have been poor, at best, this season. Some of that is on the blocking in front of Kaser. Some of that is on the coverage team. But some of that is most definitely on Kaser himself.
Now, we just wait to see if Donnie Jones can cure what ails Caleb Sturgis.
Will this improve the Chargers kicking game?
