Thursday’s win over the Chiefs pushed the Chargers up to 11-3, put them in the playoffs for the first time since 2013, and set them in good position to win the AFC West, which was last accomplished in 2009.
Not only that, but it made a statement to the nation that coach Anthony Lynn may be the best in he league after the decision to go for two points, which made them victorious.
In his first season as head coach in 2017, Lynn led his team to a 9-7 record, after starting out 0-4. They have won 10 of their past 11 games. It’s been nearly a decade since the Bolts have posted double-digit wins.
Aside from a few hiccups that cost them a couple games, Los Angeles has been phenomenal, and they’re playing on a whole new level. Lynn has built a strong résumé with road wins in Seattle, Pittsburgh and now Kansas City. These are the three most hostile environments against potential playoff teams.
Their success has been accomplished without cornerback Jason Verrett, tight end Hunter Henry, linebacker Denzel Perryman, defensive Joey Bosa for half the season and running back Melvin Gordon for the most important game. When teams continue to win despite the injuries, that’s often a great reflection on the coach and his staff.
His motivating presence has impacted the players off the field, in the locker room and on the field. Just when things seem to be going downhill, Lynn won’t allow it. For his efforts, an award should be coming his way soon.
