Somber news for the Los Angeles Chargers moving into an AFC Divisional Playoff matchup with the New England Patriots. Defensive tackle and captain Brandon Mebane’s daughter passed away last week, which he announced to the media on Wednesday.
She had dealt with a rare chromosome disorder since birth.
The fact that he’s returning to practice this week is certainly a positive sign.
Brandon Mebane said his infant daughter, Makenna, died last Thursday. She was born, prematurely, in November with a heart issue, and was being treated in Omaha, Neb. He said the rest of his family is back home now, here in SoCal.

The Chargers and Mebane didn’t need any more motivation going into their matchup with the Patriots, but playing with this emotional pain will undoubtedly push Mebane and the Chargers to win in her memory.
DT Brandon Mebane returned to practice this week and is expected to play Sunday at New England, Anthony Lynn said. Mebane missed last week while in Nebraska with his family caring for his infant daughter.

Going into New England in January is the last thing any NFL team wants to do. Mebane is showing extreme mental and emotional strength by getting back to practice and focusing on taking down Tom Brady.
Sunday’s pregame will be an emotional one, and hopefully the Chargers give it their all in honor of Mebane’s late daughter.
