Refocused, NFL Week 17: Los Angeles Chargers 23, Denver Broncos 9 – PFF Analysis Team
Adrian Phillips really stood out for this Chargers’ defense and seemed to be all over the field all afternoon. He led the team in tackles and had multiple solo stops to shut down the Broncos offense. He was also tight in coverage all night long, only allowing a couple of catches and making tackles on them before any damage after the catch could be done.
On to the Playoffs: Chargers-Broncos Recap – Travis Kincaid
As I predicted, Mike Williams came up big for the Chargers. Williams had 5 receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown on six targets. Incredible efficiency, Williams big body, and strong hands were mainly utilized for third and long situations. However, Williams was also to make a quick adjustment for a back shoulder throw from Philip Rivers which resulted in a three-yard touchdown late third quarter. Without Williams, the Chargers offense would have looked absolutely horrendous and probably wouldn’t have had a touchdown.
Philip Rivers, Chargers’ offense shaky in win; rematch with Ravens looms – Eric Williams
“It’s not as good as we want to play,” Rivers said about his team’s struggles on offense. “But I don’t see any pattern. It hasn’t been as good, but I think if you look at our collective body of work this year, it’s been good enough to win 12 games.”
Analysis: Los Angeles Chargers’ defense leads the way to Week 17 victory over Broncos – Gavino Borquez
Philip Rivers has failed to throw for over 200 yards the past two weeks. Rivers threw two interceptions, and hasn’t looked the same. A large part of his inability to produce is the offensive line’s struggles. The veteran quarterback wasn’t sacked at all, but Denver generated a lot of pressure from the middle forcing Rivers to make bad throws.
Chargers defeat Broncos, will go to Baltimore in Wild Card round – Travis Wakeman
That means that for the second time in two weeks, the Chargers will face the Baltimore Ravens, who survived a late scare from the Cleveland Browns to win the AFC North division title. The Ravens defeated the Chargers 22-10 in Week 16.
