Baltimore Ravens’ Week 16 game vs. Los Angeles Chargers takes Saturday night slot

The Baltimore Ravens learned Wednesday they’d play an additional game in primetime down the stretch of the regular season.

The NFL placed Baltimore’s Week 16 contest at the Los Angeles Chargers in the 8:20 p.m. Saturday night slot, meaning the teams will square off Dec. 22 instead of Dec. 23. When first announcing the scheduled, the league left open the possibility of holding the Ravens-Chargers game on Saturday or Sunday of that week.

In any case, the shift to primetime gives the Ravens a third night game on their schedule and signals that the NFL believes their Week 16 bout could be a significant one. The Ravens (4-3) and Chargers (5-2) are both in position to contend for a playoff spot in the AFC.

Unless another Baltimore game gets shifted into primetime, which the NFL and television networks can do late in the season to move interesting matchups in the most-watched time slots, the Ravens will play all three of their night games on the road this year. They lost to the Bengals in Week 2 and beat the Steelers in Week 4 under the lights.
