You’ve got to feel for the Los Angeles Chargers.
Not only were they forced to leave San Diego after not being able to land a new stadium deal, but now, there are questions among owners about whether the team has a long-term future in the LA market.
But what might be even worse this year is that the Chargers are good. I’m talking very good, but nobody seems to be talking about it.
A lot of football fans may be overlooking the Chargers because for one thing most of their games are in the late afternoon given they are a west coast team, and second, they’re the team without a home. It’s hard to find handfuls of Chargers fans packing the sports bars on Sunday, even in Los Angeles.
Yet the Chargers are winning games, and doing so with a top-notch offense led by Philip Rivers. The team is 5-2 right now, good enough for second place in the AFC West behind the 7-1 Kansas City Chiefs, and there offense is a big reason why they are still in the hunt for the division crown.
LAC ranks eighth in the NFL in points per game, averaging 27.9. They are first in yards per play at 6.9, tied for second in sacks allowed with 10 and tied for second in giveaways with six.
This Sunday, they head to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Seahawks in what should be considered one of the hottest games on the Week 9 schedule. However, with the Rams and Saints squaring off in the Big Easy and the Packers taking on the Patriots on Sunday night, it looks like the Chargers will once again fly under the radar.
If they keep producing like this, though. they could get everyone’s attention come playoff time.
